What is it like Being an AdVENTURE student?

Being a student of AdVENTURE for a couple of years, i've seen that AdVENTURE is a different experience compared to middle school. AdVENTURE is a program that is a lot more project related than to homework. You go to class, you learn, and you get homework to get done. However, you also have a lot more projects in between. This is unique because there are a lot more projects than is many middle schools, so it is almost like your homework is the projects! This can really exercise your imagination and creativity.

I've found that many projects we have let me show my creativity and my ability to improvise. It also lets me demonstrate my knowledge of building and designing structures. I think as a whole, the constant projects are a nice thing for the students of adventure, including me.  Many of the projects involve building, but some involve planning and designing. However, homework is just thinking and using what you learned and class to try and make the idea stick. Projects are very different, they can either apply what you learned in class recently, or make you use what you already know, and they are a much bigger 'chunk' of your grade insuring you put effort into them.

AdVENTURE is a smaller scale, compared to other schools, so it is very straight forward. There are quite a few students, and few classes. The schedule is easy to follow, and there are plenty of neat people out there. This is a different feel because it isn't a huge school with millions of kids. A lot of work we as students encounter at AdVENTURE can be challenging, but satisfying when we get it done. Some projects can be a piece of cake. Then there are the team-based projects in between. It has a much more different feel than from traditional school.

Now my mentors have said it as well : "AdVENTURE is a very high standard program, we expect good grades". I personally agree with it, when I frist enrolled in AdVENTURE, my grades weren't the best compared to how they are now because of the higher standards they expect out of you. It is early preperation. I have a personal friend who left AdVENTURE before I did, and he personally told me "Middle school was a piece of cake because of AdVENTURE". For personal reasons I shall not say his name.

All in all, being a student at AdVENTURE is different. I hope this prepares me for what lies ahead, High School. I've learned many things at AdVENTURE, and enjoyed it. I especially enjoyed the projects. What I liked about the projects was the design process, and the building. The building was always the funnest part of the projects, and once I leave, I think that will be the thing i'll miss the most about AdVENTURE.
